🚗 What GYT consists of
- Rider booking page: Riders open one link on their phone, type pickup + house number + drop-off, see their fare, tap Book. They can watch the driver coming on the map.
- Driver app: Drivers log in with their own PIN, go online, get a sound + phone alert for new rides, accept, see the route, mark arrived / on trip / done.
- Admin board + live tracker: Every booking and every driver on one screen and a map. Add or remove drivers, approve driver sign-ups, change fares, export bookings.
- Dispatch to WhatsApp: Every booking opens WhatsApp to the dispatch number with all the details filled in; the rider taps Send. No driver in 3 minutes? The rider gets a “WhatsApp dispatch now” button.
- Email alerts: Every new booking (and every “no driver yet” after 3 minutes) is emailed to the dispatch inbox.
- Fares: R50 flat inside Mitchells Plain. Outside: R20 + R10 per km, minimum R60 (e.g. a 10 km trip = R120). All 4 numbers can be changed on the admin board. The rider only sees the fare for their own trip.
- House number: Required box next to pickup (maps give the street, not the house). It goes to WhatsApp, the email and the driver.
- Works like an app: Riders and drivers tap “Add to Home screen”. No app store, no download, light on data.
- Directory link: “Need a ride? GYT” button on the Mitchells Plain pages of the Cape Flats Local directory.

Why: building an app like GYT from scratch in South Africa is roughly R90,000–R150,000 (quick-MVP band at one SA developer, 120–200 hours; source). Freelance developers charge R250–R750 an hour, agencies R450–R1,200 (source). Full native taxi apps are quoted at R240,000+ (source). The exit package costs about a quarter of a rebuild, and his developer can start in hours instead of months. Terms in a short written agreement.
⚖️ Licence note
Paid passenger transport (e-hailing) generally needs an operating licence from the Western Cape transport regulator and a PrDP for each driver. Unverified: check the current rules with the regulator. Drivers on GYT are independent.
